March 12, 2016: A Top 100 review

It's very meh

Now this is something I don't think I'll do very often on this blog but I thought I might try once or twice a month (or season depends). Not a great week again. Nothing changed from the past week other than a few rises and falls. It is an ok week. Not bad not good.

===The Top 10===

 1. Work by Rihanna ft. Drake
Unfinished boring beat, unnecessary repetition, half asleep performers. Eh.
Rating: 4/10

 2. Love Yourself by Justin Bieber ft. Ed Sheeran
Too striped back for me. The acoustic touches are bland and Ed Sheeran while a great writer can't save this song. It is an ok song but it feels more like a deep cut rather then a #1 hit.
Rating: 5/10

 3. Stressed Out by twenty one pilots
Ahhhaaahhaaaaaahhhhhhhh.ah...aah?...aaah?............? Hmm?? (Review to come)
Rating: ?/10

 4. Sorry by JB ft. SKRILLEX
I don't like Justin Bieber at all, but I love Skrillex. This is probably one of his best productions. This is like Love Yourself lyrically but this is actually a really fun song.
Rating: 7/10

 5. My House by Flo Rida
Guys, it's Flo Rida, you know already.
Rating: 10/10

 6. Pillowtalk by ZAYN
I like this song but there's no great groove to gravitate towards. It could've been a lot better, but it is pretty solid as it is.
Rating: 7/10

 7. Me, Myself & I by G-Eazy ft Bebe Rexha
I love the hook and the production. I don't like G-Eazy at all.
Rating: 4/10

 8. Hello by Adele
This song is so slow, generic and selfless. It wears off too quickly and doesn't have much replay value. Adele is capable of so much more, the singles from her last album & Skyfall were so 🔥. Still...
Rating: 8/10

 9. Cake By The Ocean by D[A]NCE
Wow, when Nick returned with the R&B song Jealous I hated it, and now Joe has returned with a Rock song more awful than I think I heard all decade. Seriously, there has been some lacklustre rock hits this decade (by acts like Maroon 5, OneRepublic, 5 Seconds of Summer, Train, Imagine Dragons) but this is the worst of them all. But the biggest remains: What's the path that Kevin Will Kevin start making industrial hip-hop?
Rating: 1/10

10. Roses by The Chainsmokers ft. ROZES
The Chainsmokers returned...😠, and with the best hit song of the year so far...?😑😲😤 Wow the production, the song-writing, ROZES herself. SO AMAZING! I'm happy about this song doing so well. 😎
Rating: 9/10

Overall Rating of the Top 10 (excluding Stressed Out): 5.11/10

Top 10 Ranked (I left out Stressed Out intentionally): 1.Roses | 2.Sorry | 3.Hello | 4.Pillowtalk | 5.My House | 6.Love Yourself | 7.Me, Myself & I | 8.Work | 9... | 10.Cake By The Ocean

What should happen for a change: 1. the Lukas Graham & When We Were Young to enter the top 10, 2. Cake By The Ocean & Me, Myself & I (or Work, or Love Yourself) to leave the top 10

===Some of The Top 40 (where I talk a bit about some other hits in the top 40)===

11. Hands To Myself by Selena Gomez
To put it bluntly Selena Gomez never impressed me as an artist or as a singer. All her songs till now either did nothing for me or I hated them. And Hands to Myself is probably one of the worst songs I've heard from her since Come Get It.
Rating: 3/10

12. 7 Years by Lukas Graham
Wow, the sleeper-hit of the year. This has potential for my best list if it sticks around.
Rating: 8/10

13. Down In The DM by YouGotit (the remix features Nicki Minaj)
Ehh, guilty pleasure. The original version was okay, but the remix with Nicki Minaj is dope.
Rating: 6/10

14. One Call Away by Charlie "dangerous" Puth
Guys, it's Charlie Puth, you know already what quality to expect from him.
Rating: 2/10

15. I Took A Pill In Ibiza by Mike Posner, remixed by SeeB
Original: too slow but more affective. Remix: more listenable
Rating: 6/10 & 7/10

18. When We Were Young by Adele
Adele, you're only 27 (28 on the 5th of May), you're still young. This song though has great lyrics but not much replay value for me sadly. It might grow on me with time.
Rating: 8/10

22. In The Night by The Weeknd
Need to review the album ASAP.
Rating: wait for the review/10

23. Hide Away by Daya
The most cringey thing ever.
Rating: 3/10

24. Jumpman by Drake & Future
I LOVE THIS, THIS IS AWESOME. JUMPMAN! JUMPMAN! JUMPMAN! Future's verse is kinda meh though.
Rating: 7/10

26. Here by Alessia Cara
A lot of people seem to be turning against this song and start to hate it. I honestly didn't care very much at first and I am still not caring now.
Rating: 5/10 or 6/10

27. Say It by Tory Lanez
The best Drake rip off of 2016. Not loving it (better than Hotline Bling anyway). It's ok, enjoyable.
Rating: 6/10 or 7/10

28. Oui by Jeremih
Jeremih made Birthday Sex. I'll never be able to like him at ALL costs.
Rating: 4/10

29.2 Phones - Kevin Gates
Disappointment, Kevin Gates has so many better songs that could've become hits. I still enjoy the idea of bragging to have two phones. My anthem
Rating: 5/10

32. Summer Sixteen by Dr. Drake
The hook is too thin, but the verses have a lot of quotables. The title bothers me though, "Summer '16". It's like that Cool for the Summer song that tried to be relevant by just being a summer song.
 Rating: 6/10

33. Adventure Of A Lifetime by Coldpay
I like Coldplay, this song is their attempt at some party music after a really sad release. It works for me.
Rating: 8/10

36. Back To Sleep by Chris Brown
The line, "fuck you back to sleep" is more rapey than Robin Thick's entire discography.
Rating: 2/10

40. Antelope by Travi[Dolla Sign] Scott
So I hate dark party music a lot (We Can't Stop, Like a G6), but this song isn't focused just on partying, it's a more artful, darker approach to this kind of subject (strip clubs, fucking bitches and doing drugs) through the usage of auto-tune, the drops of the trap beat and the singing that builds up to the rapped bridge that's just awesome to listen to. Check out Rodeo, it's dark but great.
Rating: 9/10

41. Stand By You by Rachel Platten (which blocked me on Twiter)
Ok, this isn't in the top 40 any more but I really wanted to talk about this song cause it's sucks. I really hated Fight Song (one of the most deficient song I ever heard), musically (generic and without substance and very thin) and lyrically (badly written, needed a lot of rewrites to be at least compelling), but I only hate the lyrics of Stand by You. Which is all the more baffling to me because I can't stand (No pun intended) both of them.
Rating: 2/10

42. White Iverson by Post Cornball Malone
The corniest rap hit song of the year. So bad it's kinda sad.
Rating: 2/10

===New enteries===

75. Lost Boy by Ruth B
No idea how this got here. Kinda boring.
Rating: 4/10

85. Mind Reader by Dustin Lynch
Guys, it's country music, I don't cover country music. But this is pretty bad.
Rating: 4/10

87. Look At My Dab by ....M...MI...MIGOS!!!
awww :'( I hate this world so much. >:(
Rating: light 1/10

88. The Sound Of Silence by Disturbed
The Sound Of Silence is one of my favourite things of all time. There's no way to fuck it up. Maybe I'll give a listen to the album. Though, it's kinda sad that A ROCK BAND covers an acoustic guitar ballad.
Rating: 8/10

91. Wild Things by Alessia Cara
This is okay. Can't wait to see everybody in a month hating this.
Rating: 7/10

93. Saved  by Ty Dolla $ign Featuring E-40
Damn, I like Ty$ too much. E-40 IS ON THE CHARTS AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!
Rating: 8/10

94. Cut It by O.T. Genasis ft. Young Dolph
WORSE.THAN.COCO.
RATING: 2/10

96. Panda by Desiigner
Ha ha ha, good job Kanye. Panda is one good verse and then just filler, but in the best way possible.
Rating: 7/10

100. Might Not by Belly ft. The Weeknd
This is good because of The Weeknd. This is ok
Rating: 8/10

Best new enteries: The Sound Of Silence, Saved, Panda, Wild Things
Worst new enteries: MIGOS!, Cut I
